A Bibliometric Review of Social-Emotional Learning in English Language Classrooms

    Abstract:

The current research uses bibliometric analysis to reveal patterns in the field of social and emotional learning in English language classrooms, laying the groundwork for future investigations into this important area of inquiry. The purpose of this bibliometric research study and data-mapping study is to examine the breadth of studies focusing on SEL. Titles, keywords, and abstracts in the research are used to narrow down the results based on the topic area. Documents from the Web of Science database (WoS) are graphically analysed using the VOSviewer software, yielding a thorough study that highlights global patterns in research on social and emotional learning. Different bibliometric network visualisations and trends as a function of publication metrics such as; citation, geographical features, journal publications, and research institutions are generated by the quantitative methodology employed publications, authors, sources, collaboration, authorship, country, and network analysis were all pulled from the database to determine their most salient features. Documents from the last decade were culled using bibliometric methods. It was discovered that in the years 2020 and 2021, the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic correlates strongly with the increase of scientific output in SEL. In terms of scientific evidence, the United States is the leading producer, with articles being the preferred document and collaborative research predominating over individual study. Current trends indicate a significant increase in the number of publications worldwide on social and emotional learning, with the United States providing the most notable contribution to this crucial topic.
